Why you need to try App Press

If you are reading this you maybe asking yourself, “what is App Press and why pay for it?”

App Press is an extremely unique tool that allows designers, small publishers, creative agencies, large companies, developers or anyone with great content to easily and affordably build a quality iOS app, completely code-free. Simply upload custom images then arrange each element in App Press then hit the save button and using your App Press app, instantly view your work on your iPad or iPhone. That’s all there is to it.

App Press has only been available to the public via Ad Hoc for two months. Currently there are ten iOS apps powered by App Press on the App Store and the results have been very positive for all ten from a ROI standpoint (not to mention other benefits like brand awareness and increasing web traffic).

Let’s use The Chili Chef app as a prime example why you NEED to try App Press.

The Chili Chef was built in 30 hours; start to finish in App Press, by an entry level graphic designer getting paid $15.00 an hour (Cost: $450). The sign up fee for App Press and publishing the app is $1,500. The total cost to build this whole application and publishing it on iTunes was exactly $1,950.

In less than 6 months in the App Store the Chili Chef has sold 3,800 units at $1.99 and the app averages 20 downloads a day. Thus, projected sales for 2011 are well over 5,000 units. A pretty nice return on 30 hours work. All made possible by App Press.

Do you have great content? Would it make sense as an app?

Picture this: If your a small publisher or creative agency looking to produce an app you are likely receiving development quotes that are at minimum $10,000. Now using App Press you can utilize your existing designers to build an app and slash dev costs while not having to rely on an outside source for development.

Are you looking for any other options to build iOS apps code-free? There are a couple like WoodWing and PixelMags… but check the costs and you’ll see why App Press is a brilliant solution for your development needs regardless of the size of your company.

App Press Unveiled

Posted: January 29th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Invisions News, Uncategorized | No Comments »

We are a small company but we make big time apps. Below is an in-depth look at one of our popular apps, “The Chili Chef” and some of the thinking behind its development. How did we build it? Using a revolutionary tool called App Press.

Our app, “The Chili Chef” was actually a feature article that ran in a local Indianapolis culinary magazine several years ago. We approached the publisher and presented the idea of re-packaging some of their old magazine articles. Knowing all these great recipes and beautiful photos were just sitting on a shelf got us thinking… why not convert all this content into something new? The idea of small cookbook apps was born (Indianapolis Dine magazine layout shown below).

To build the app we used a web-based CMS tool called App Press. App Press is an incredible system that allows print and web designers to quickly and easily build stunning iPad and iPhone apps. App Press actually allowed our designer to build this app in one week. Not to mention our designer had zero coding knowledge. The results we got from using this tool are shocking.

What makes the tool so unique is its simplicity. The designer uploads the images he or she creates in Photoshop and InDesign, then repositions the elements in the App Press interface. We truly believe App Press is the first of its kind. It puts the power of iOS development back into the hands of the designer and eliminates the need for a developer. A game changer for the little guy.

Our designer took the copy and photos from the article and broke each element down to a background layer and a content layer. The background layer is one of the main photos from the article and the content layer contains the recipes.

App Press works on these same principles. The designer has the ability to upload a background layer and a content layer. The background layer is static while the content layer is interactive. Our designer re-sized  the images in Photoshop and simply uploaded them into App Press. From there you can position your layout for the iPad and iPhone.

The results are beyond belief. As mentioned above The Chili Chef app was built in 7 days by a graphic designer who doesn’t know a single line of code. The Chili Chef is receiving rave reviews in the app store and is currently being featured under the, “What’s Hot” section along side the official Super Bowl app. Apple actually hand-selected the app to be featured with 12 others in their “Super Bowl Party Planning” section.

The Chili Chef couldn’t of been possible without App Press. We believe this tool is a great solution for anyone looking to build an app for the iPhone and iPad.  For more information and to sign up for App Press visit: www.myappress.com
