Droptext 1.1.2 and 1.1.3

Posted: August 30th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Droptext | 18 Comments »

Droptext 1.1.2 was released last week to fix a few bugs and add a few little features. Since then a few more bugs have been reported and I just submitted another quick update to fix those. If you are having problems previewing files in version 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 this update will fix it. It also addresses a bug when canceling out of a “Save As” after taping “Save As” or saving a new file for the first time.

Thanks for all of emails and comments.

If you have any suggestions to make Droptext better please leave a comment or send us an email (tap the action menu and then “Send us an email” from Droptext).

I love the app. I do have a default folder in dropbox that I use just for text notes and wondering if you could allow an option for us to set a default save to folder so everytime I create a new txt file, it automatically saves to my default folder location in dropbox.

Not really that big of a deal since navigation is fairly quick.

I have a few ideas. You may see something in an update soon.

I just downloaded the app, and like its simplicity.

Also, it can edit Japanese as far as the text is encoded in UTF-8! Good for Japanese.

I am now eagerly waiting for offline editing feature.

Glad to hear you like Droptext and I’m very excited to hear that it is working with Japanese files. Don’t forget to leave a review in the app store.

Your app is looking great. One request – I’d like to use a fixed-width font, but Courier New looks horrible (at least in small sizes). Would it be possible to embed a different font in the app? Bitstream Vera Sans Mono is lovely, for instance, and freely redistributable even packaged within a commercial application ( http://www.gnome.org/fonts/ ).

I will look into that. I’m not a big fan of Courier New either.

This is a very useful application!

The only functionality I miss is a “favorites” button, the same as is available for on the Dropbox iPhone app. That way I would not need to navigate a lot to edit my commonly used files. Many thanks!

I am playing with this type of functionality. I don’t quite have it working they way I want but it should be in the next big release of Droptext. There will be at least one small update before then.

Hi Kevin. I’m not sure if this feature is supported or not (some of the reviews imply “no”).
Can text be edited while offline, and synced later? Or do you have to have a network connection?

I’m trying to figure out if I’ll be able to use this on my iPad while away from Wifi.

    Thanks.

At this point an internet connection is required to use Droptext. I am working on offline editing for a future release of Droptext.

Can I use DropText to access a drop folder somewhere other than DropBox, say on my own site?

How do I create and save a file when unable to connect to Internet/dropbox???
Need ability to at least create/save file, even when no connection available.
Reality of travel job is no-connection 15-20% of the time.
But I still need to create notes for later consumption and reference.
Please explain the save file process as I can’t imagine not having the capability.
    Thanks for great app otherwise..

Offline editing is not currently available. At this time Droptext requires a connection to the internet. This will be changing in a future release.

  14. 14 Kevin said at 6:03 am on September 17th, 2010:

Droptext works directly with the Dropbox APIs. It will not connect to any other server or service at this time.

waiting patiently to get back to using Droptext again….
In and out of connection all day today and can’t afford to lose genius thought inspirations!!!!

  16. 16 how is apple keyboard support? said at 5:07 pm on September 18th, 2010:

I find myself using a apple wireless keyboard often with my iPad – how is your support for that?

  17. 17 Kevin said at 7:09 am on September 19th, 2010:

I can’t say I have tried. I am fairly certain that developers don’t need to do anything special for this. Either way I will do some testing and let you know.

  18. 18 Kevin said at 7:48 pm on September 19th, 2010:

Well I have to buy some AA batteries to try it. I will post something tomorrow.
